Good looking ride. Curious as to why you would get a turbo kit instead of piecing it together yourself? Granted I know nothing of the brand, just wondering. Ive been considering picking up a water pumper for a daily, just not sure if I can do it.

I would say vr swap it Alex and keep it simple and you get that awesome sound. This the 2.0 is fun to drive and I could about imagine how fun it would be turbod. The vr swap isnt very hard. I thought the hardest part of the whole thing was getting the master cylinder to snap into the back of the clutch pedal. Alot of non grandmother approved words were yelled during that process. You can find full swaps pretty cheap on vortex or junk yards Nice looking ride btw

Thanks for the comments. As for the turbo kit, Its cheaper and easier to get the kinetic kit because 1. Its fully bolt on. They advertise (and vortex confirms) it doesnt take more than one full day to bolt it on and be driving it. 2. It includes a tune chip for your ecu. This is where you save most of the money from a piecing your own kit together and then having to pay for a fully custom dyno tune. 3. Reliability. Kinetic is a very popular vw turbo kit company and is in great standing with the vw community for ease of use, reliability, and affordability. As far as the vr swap, they do sound great, but if i was to ever swap the engine, i would do the 1.8t swap as its much easier. All you have to do is buy the kit from BFI which includes a few small parts, other than that you use the stock aba motor mounts, wiring harness, transmission, even ECU etc. So its basically drop it in and you're done. Both of these engine swap, and turbo ideas are far out though. As far as this summer ill be happy to get the first few things in the list done! Moar pics of it from the PO's facebook for your time. Pictures include it shown on 15" xxr wheels, 16" cup wheels, and the current 14" steelies.

cool. I had a 97 Jetta GT for a few years. Honestly if it had had a manual I'd probably still have it.
I absolutely hated the 2.0 though, will never own another one. Of course had it been paired to a manual maybe I would have felt differently about it.

Of course had it been paired to a manual maybe I would have felt differently about it. My last black mk4 was also a 2.0 manual. I didn't mind it, but maybe thats because Im not all about going fast and havent owned fast cars. As long as a car has a manual i can usually entertain myself regardless I agree miah, the xxrs looked great, just wouldnt give the fitment to go low with air suspension that i'd like!

It was just a little depressing going from an Mkll 1.8 to a Mklll 2.0 and it being a dog compared to the 1.8

I could be wrong but I think you might have fitment issues on that euro lip on a NA fascia. Might as well go all out and do the euro fascia and rehbar. Lower gloves boxes arent expensive but be prepared to cut the metal plate that is behind it. Think about an upper glove box as well? What bags are you planning on running? Also could be wrong but look into "C" notching in the front so you can lay it out without hitting your axles. My oe wheel bolts work on my my esms. May only have 3 on a couple but thats minor details lol Sorry alot of my Vdub knowledge has escaped me because I have been neglecting mine lol. Been a little too preoccupied by that 2 toned little slut I have. That is about to change though. I think you have a good foundation started for when you get back. I bet you are pretty excited to get tearing into this thing.

Nardi shift knob will be ordered eventually to match the steering wheel, and not sure what I want to do for seats yet. Might check junk yards when i get back for party or plaid seats.
As far as the lip it does take some modification but not anything too crazy. They are slam series struts and I do plan on getting a notch for the passenger side frame. And I also just ordered an upper glove box to replace my air bag.
Also finally managed to find a rare 4 bar vento grille, still brand new in the box, for the rare euro part price of $350. Will be worth it in the end. I definitely am counting down the days to come home to this thing!

LOL... That is such a dirty four letter word for parts for volkswagens, RARE. Thats good, it seems like you have a pretty good plan. I think the slam series struts are sooooo freaking spendy but I dont see many other options so I am eventually going to have to bite that bullet. While you are in there for the upper and lower glove boxes be sure to get a acquainted with your blower motor resistor hint hint. lol

I wont use the dirty little word, but I finally scooped up a part ive been looking for, for ages! Audi TT look alike shifter base. JOM made these for a while. Pretty neat way to spruce up the interior quite a bit.
