I'm Jon, aka JAM/JLM/IMO. I started DakotaDübs in 2002 with a couple of friends in the hopes of hanging out with others that shared our love for oddball German cars with dodgy window regulators, overpriced parts, and motor mounts that were made of jelly donuts. By leaving flyers on any and all dubs we came across, we eventually grew to 40 strong. We cruised, hung out, wrenched, made fun of each other, and traveled to dub shows. Getting volume discounts on REVO because we'd show up en mass was a pretty cool thing. The friendships were real, and the cars quickly became the backstory. Career demands and a growing family coincided with a lot of club members moving away. There was never a falling out or drama. It just fell to the wayside of life. So many great memories, drained bank accounts, UPS packages, bloody knuckles, beer, laughs, and spirited drives.
I've owned 16 VWs over the years, including 3 currently - (although I've moved on to the Porsche scene and am actively involved in several organizations relating to P-cars). Among the favorites that I've owned: MKIV DBP R32 (original owner - then sold to another DD member - now with a new DD member), '90 Corrado Stage 4.5 G60 (you may have read about it and my "hatred" for Corrados in Performance VW), a bevy of MKIVs (VR6, 1.8T, 2.0slow wagon), a few MK1s, a trio of MKVs…I at least liked them all.
When Miah approached me asking if he could use and resurrect the DakotaDübs name, I was pretty excited. That makes me very happy. I'm here to be supportive and will participate when I'm able to. The dub scene is so unique. It takes a "different" type of person to be a part of it and "get it". You all already know that. Here's a dump of some original DD stuff via hilariously bad pics taken with a potato:
